Center collecting gently worn shoes

November 11, 2009 | Uncategorized

Transitions Counseling Center in Cooperstown is collecting donations of gently worn shoes for Soles4Souls, a shoe charity that gives away free pairs of shoes to those in need.

The efforts of Transitions Counseling Center and participating groups will go directly toward helping put shoes on barefooted children around the world, organizers said.

The U.S. government estimates that 300 million children around the world have never owned a pair of shoes, and Americans threw away the same number of shows into landfills last year alone, officials said.

There is a collection box on the front porch of the center at 45 Pioneer St. Donated shoes should be bound together with a rubber band.
