State Sen. James Seward, R-Milford, and Assemblyman Pete Lopez, R-Schoharie, are hosting an “emergency dairy summit” Thursday at Lawyersville Reformed Church in Cobleskill. They want Gov. David Paterson to use $60 million in unassigned federal stimulus money to aid dairy farmers.

More details on the meeting and the legislators’ efforts is available at NewsChannel 34.

The Daily Star recently documented the struggles that New York dairy farmers are facing, a crisis some say threatens the life of the industry. And last month, Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, a member of the Agriculture Committee, vowed to help farmers at the federal level, though the result of that pledge remains uncertain.
