I-88 westbound closure begins Monday
July 18, 2009 | Otsego County Breaking News
Reconstruction work will close Interstate 88 westbound between exit 12 (Otego) and exit 11 (Franklin/Unadilla) beginning at about 9 a.m. Monday in the towns of Sidney and Otego, state officials said in a media release.
The closures are projected to continue for more than four months.
Westbound traffic will cross to the eastbound side of the interstate, the Department of Transportation said. Two-way traffic will be maintained in the eastbound direction between exits 11 and 12.
The rest area in the westbound direction at Wells Bridge will be closed because of lack of access, the release said. The lane and rest-area closures will remain in place through the end of November.
In a DOT media release, officials said motorists should be alert and calm when approaching roadwork areas and expect the unexpected.
Fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone, officials said, and in accordance with the Work Zone Safety Act of 2005, convictions of two or more speeding violations in a work zone could result in the suspension of one’s driver’s license.
