Staff Report
A fire in the village of Hancock on Tuesday morning left 10 people homeless.
The cause of the blaze at 22 Read St. is still under investigation, fire officials said.
No injuries were reported.
The two-story building housing several apartments, and a recently closed clothing shop was gutted by the fire, which broke out around 8:30 a.m. The shell of the building was left intact, said Hancock Fire Department EMS Captain Joel Keesler.
The Disaster Action Team of the Southern Tier Chapter of the American Red Cross was at the scene Tuesday with nine caseworkers to help the families and individuals. Five senior citizens were among those displaced by the blaze, according to a Red Cross media release.
Around 100 firefighters from Hancock, Sidney, Deposit, Walton, East Branch and Equinunk, Pa., responded to the scene, Keesler said.
