Fire on River Street in Oneonta

Fire and police responded to a structure fire on River Street in Oneonta shortly after 12:30 a.m. Thursday, according to scanner traffic. Among departments placed on standby were West Oneonta and Otego.

The structure on fire appeared to be the building directly next to Bella Michael’s, which is 57 River St. Smoke was coming from the building as firefighters responded to the upper floors at about 12:45 a.m., according to a witness account. According to scanner traffic shortly later, the fire appeared to be contained.
