June 18, 2009 | Oneonta Breaking News

ONEONTA — A blaze just after midnight this morning heavily damaged a Sixth Ward duplex and killed three dogs.
The fire struck 59 River St. and is believed to have started in an upstairs apartment in which two adults and a child live, according Oneonta Fire Chief Robert Barnes.
The blaze was reported at 12:31 a.m. and firefighters arrived at 12:34 a.m. The fire was brought under control within a half an hour and firefighters were there until 4 a.m. Thursday
The cause is still under investigation.
“We’re working on that,” Barnes said. “It started in either a kitchen or the back porch on the second floor.”
The family living in the second floor apartment were able to escape the flames.
